The BMW R 1300 GS marks a revolutionary step forward, setting a new benchmark for the large-capacity touring enduro segment. Completely redesigned from the ground up, it is significantly lighter, more compact, and more powerful than its legendary predecessor. For adventure motorcycling enthusiasts in Bangladesh, the R 1300 GS represents the absolute cutting edge of technology, performance, and design.
The Most Powerful Boxer Engine Yet
At its core is a brand-new, more compact 1300cc air/liquid-cooled boxer engine. This powerhouse is the most potent standard BMW boxer engine to date, delivering an impressive 145 hp at 7,750 rpm and a massive 149 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. The gearbox is now located under the engine, and the camshaft drive has been rearranged, resulting in a more compact design and a significant weight saving of 12 kg compared to the previous model.
Innovative Chassis and Suspension
The chassis is also a completely new development. The main frame is now a sheet metal shell steel construction, which is more rigid and space-efficient. The highlight is the new suspension system:
- EVO Telelever Front: This new front-wheel guide with a flex element offers even greater steering precision and stability.
- EVO Paralever Rear: The revised rear-wheel guide provides improved traction and handling dynamics.
- Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA): The next generation of electronic suspension, offered as an optional extra, goes beyond Dynamic ESA by adapting damping and spring rate dynamically to the riding conditions.
A New Era of Technology and Design
The R 1300 GS is packed with state-of-the-art technology. It comes with four riding modes as standard, including the new 'Enduro' mode for off-road adventures. The Full Integral ABS Pro ensures maximum braking safety. A new, optional Riding Assistant includes features like Active Cruise Control (ACC), Front Collision Warning (FCW), and Lane Change Warning (LCW). The design is unmistakably GS but significantly more modern and compact, featuring a new matrix LED headlamp that provides unparalleled illumination.
Weighing in at just 237 kg, the new R 1300 GS is remarkably agile for its class. It continues the GS legacy while pushing the boundaries of what a large adventure bike can do.
