Tyre TypeThe Ampere V48 is a long-discontinued, entry-level electric scooter that was one of the foundational models for the Ampere brand. It was a very basic, low-speed vehicle equipped with a lead-acid battery, designed to be an ultra-affordable commuting solution for short distances.
The Ampere V48 stands as one of the earliest and most fundamental models in the history of Ampere Electric Vehicles. Now long discontinued, the V48 was designed with a single purpose: to provide an extremely affordable, no-frills electric mobility solution. It catered to the entry-level market with its simple construction, low-speed performance, and basic features, making it a utilitarian vehicle for short-range commutes.
As a basic low-speed scooter, the Ampere V48 was powered by a 250W BLDC hub motor. This limited its top speed to a modest 25 km/h, making it suitable for local errands and exempting it from registration requirements in India. The scooter's energy source was a 48V, 20Ah VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead-Acid) battery. This battery technology, while heavy and with a long charging time of 8-10 hours, was key to the scooter's low price point. On a full charge, it offered a range of approximately 45-50 km.
The V48 was built on a simple tubular frame with a functional design. The suspension system comprised a telescopic fork at the front and a coil spring shock absorber at the rear. The braking system was a basic setup of 110mm drum brakes on both wheels. With a kerb weight of around 84 kg, it was relatively light, though heavier than modern lithium-ion scooters of the same size.
The features on the Ampere V48 were minimal, in line with its budget-friendly nature. It typically came with an analog speedometer and odometer, and basic halogen lighting. It served as a crucial stepping stone for the Ampere brand, allowing them to build a market presence before introducing more advanced and feature-rich models like the Magnus and Zeal series. For anyone interested in Ampere's journey, the V48 is a historical benchmark, but for modern buyers, current-generation scooters offer vastly superior technology, performance, and features.
