Tyre TypeThe Ampere Reo is a discontinued entry-level electric scooter, known for its affordability and practical design. It was offered with both lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries, providing a basic, no-frills commuting solution with a top speed of 25 km/h, making it ideal for short, local trips.
The Ampere Reo was one of the foundational models in Ampere's lineup, designed to make electric mobility accessible to the masses in India. Now discontinued, this low-speed scooter was a simple, practical, and highly affordable choice for daily short-distance commutes. It was particularly popular for its two battery options—a very low-cost lead-acid variant and a more modern lithium-ion variant—which allowed buyers to choose based on their budget and needs.
As a low-speed vehicle, the Ampere Reo was powered by a 250W BLDC motor that limited its top speed to 25 km/h. This meant it did not require registration or a license to be ridden in India, which was a major part of its appeal. The key difference between its variants lay in the battery. The lead-acid version was cheaper but heavier and had a longer charging time of 8-10 hours. The lithium-ion version was lighter, offered a slightly better range of around 60-70 km per charge, and had a faster charging time of 5-6 hours.
The scooter was built on a conventional frame with a telescopic front suspension and coil spring twin shocks at the rear. This setup provided a reasonably comfortable ride for city conditions. The braking system consisted of 110mm drum brakes on both the front and rear wheels. With a kerb weight ranging from 70kg for the Li-ion version to 88kg for the lead-acid model, it was always a very lightweight and easy-to-manage scooter.
For a basic model, the Ampere Reo came with some useful features, including a digital instrument console, a USB charging port, and alloy wheels with tubeless tyres. Although it has been succeeded by more modern versions like the Ampere Reo Li Plus, the original Reo played a crucial role in establishing the Ampere brand. For potential buyers in Bangladesh looking for a similar scooter, newer low-speed models would be the recommended choice.
