Tyre TypeThe Ampere Magnus is a discontinued electric scooter that formed the foundation for the popular Magnus Pro and EX models. It was known for its practical design, comfortable ride, and features like a detachable battery, making it a solid choice for urban commuting during its time.
The Ampere Magnus was a foundational model in Ampere's popular line of electric scooters, setting the stage for its successors like the Magnus Pro and the current Magnus EX. As a now-discontinued model, it represented a blend of practical design, user-friendly features, and efficient performance tailored for the Indian urban environment. Its core appeal lay in its simplicity and reliability as a daily commuter.
The original Magnus was typically powered by a 1200W (1.2 kW) BLDC hub motor, which offered a top speed of around 55 km/h. This level of performance was well-suited for city traffic. It was often equipped with a 60V, 30Ah lithium-ion battery pack, a key feature of which was its detachability. This allowed users to conveniently charge the battery at home or in the office. A full charge would take approximately 5 to 6 hours and deliver a realistic range of 70-80 km in its economy mode, making it a very practical option for daily use.
Built on a conventional tubular frame, the Magnus provided a stable and secure ride. The suspension setup, featuring a telescopic fork at the front and a coil spring system at the rear, was designed to handle common urban road imperfections, ensuring a comfortable journey. The scooter was also lightweight, with a kerb weight of around 82 kg, which made it exceptionally easy to maneuver and park in congested areas.
The Ampere Magnus was equipped with features that were competitive for its time, including a digital instrument console, a combined braking system (CBS) for its 130mm drum brakes, and tubeless tyres. While it has been surpassed by the newer Ampere Magnus EX which offers an improved certified range and other refinements, the original Magnus remains a significant model in Ampere's history. For those in Bangladesh interested in Ampere scooters, the current Magnus EX is the spiritual successor to this practical and efficient model.
